I bought a Fleischmann 74230 BR 212 sound locomotive on eBay last November and because I've been away from my layout was only able to test it today. When I placed it on the track the lights didn't illuminate and the locomotive showed no signs of life. I have a Lenz LZV-100 system which I put into programming mode to try and read the address on my programming track, but when I did that I got an error code. When I tried another DCC sound locomotive on the track (my Fleischmann 74118 BR 18), everything worked normally so I'm sure it wasn't a power issue.
I opened the 74230 up and everything looked normal-- decoder and speaker were installed and there didn't seem to be any loose wires. So I'm wondering if a DCC decoder can "burn out", or what else might be causing this problem. If so, what might have done that, and how do I fix this?
Thanks in advance.
