Steve,
Stuttgart to Pforzheim is only about 40km to the west, and to Wablingen about 8km to the east. Train is a good way to get around. You will need to take a bus or taxi from Waiblingen Hauptbahnhof to Schweickhardt. From Pforzheim Hauptbahnhof it's about 10 mins walk or a short taxi ride to Seyfried. You can take advantage of a Laender-ticket, which is only 22 Euro for a day!! In actual fact the Baden Wuerttemberg Laender-ticket covers an enormous area - check the map

so you could have some nice outings, or do a circular trip taking in some really famous landmarks. For example from Stuttgart to Sigmaringen via Tubingen and Hechingen, to see the Hohenzollern castle, on to Tuttlingen through the upper Danube valley with its impressive sandstone cliffs, the back to Stuttgart via Horb - lovely relaxed day trip.
Cheers
