Here is a cameo on my layout which I completed yesterday.

It shows cattle being loaded into a wagon.
The idea came to me from this photo.
I reproduce the thumb-nail only to respect copyright, but you will get the idea.

This person sells images, but there is a beautiful selection of historic images. You can search for this photo by using the search function and the name of the photo, in this case "Viehverladung".

"Uwe, we have three more, shouts Friedrich sitting on the trolley. Franz stands by the wagon door, to hold it in the right position".
Friedrich cannot count, one beast is lying down.
On my layout, it takes 3 people to load these cattle. These cattle are quiet, they are used to being handled. In Australia, many cattle would simply try to jump out of the wagon, so cattle wagons are always higher-sided. To one side, you can see a calf separated from its mother, as a local farmer has purchased it.
My scene dates from around 1946, and the cattle would have been driven along local roads to the loading point.
The wagon has hay strewn on the floor.
Temporary fencing has been erected to the right, for obvious reasons.
Railways in Germany in those days, used any wagon available for almost anything. I have seen photos of cattle loaded into covered vans, and cabbages loaded into cattle vans.
