Part of the answer lies in my post above:

Apart from the 3 types of Läutebude with one, two and three bells, and hence up to three different sounding rings, I assume the wall-mounted bells on station buildings had their own unique sound(s).


However, where there were 2 Läutebuden next to one another I don't know how they distinguished them audibly. Of course if you could see them, the coloured disc would also move to show which one was ringing.
