The D XI was the classic Bavarian branchline engine of the mid to late State Railway steam era including the years of the Great War. She was designed to be the standard branchline loco for use almost everywhere except perhaps on the steeper lines where I believe the D X and BB II were used.
My notes don't say what consists it usually pulled, but the implication is that is was a jack-of-all-trades and would haul anything. That said, I don't know that pure goods trains were very common on branch lines in those days. The impression I get is that they mainly worked passenger or mixed consists (GmP or PmG), unless e.g. there was a quarry en route.
If I have time tonight I'll check out the photos in my sources to see whether that sheds any light.
